Mediation at VCAT

Businesswoman with Handheld DeviceDid you know that the Victorian Civil & Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) provides mediation free of charge in some disputes?

VCAT or one of its Members can decide whether to refer a dispute to mediation based on a range of factors including the nature of the dispute, the stage the dispute is at, the amount claimed, and the relationship between the parties. The VCAT legislation sets out the circumstances in which a person may be represented in any VCAT proceeding, including mediation. As each case is unique, the legislation must be interpreted and applied on an individual basis. Even if you are not entitled to representation at the mediation, you are free to seek advice and assistance beforehand.

That is why I offer mediation coaching to help you understand the mediation process, identify the issues in dispute, think about the outcomes you would like, and prepare for mediation. The 90 minute one-on-one coaching session is tailored to meet your needs and give you the confidence to make the most of your mediation.

For more information about mediation at VCAT have a look at this video presented by Julie McCrossin: http://www.vcat.vic.gov.au/resources/video/mediation-working-it-out-through-mediation-1606
